Azra – becoming a small business owner with a loan

When Azra’s husband died five years ago, her life changed drastically. To secure herself financially and emotionally, Azra started working for an NGO, but the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown brought everyday life to a standstill – Azra lost her job. After joining the self-help group (SHG) “Roshni” in 2004 and repaying several small loans in the many years since, Azra was granted a loan by her group for the large sum of INR 70,000 (just under €900). With this money, Azra bought an electric grain mill and installed it in her house.

The business took off immediately and Azra became an independent small business owner in her own four walls. Today she earns a good income and can easily repay her loan installments.

Azra is confident, independent and grateful and has a happy outlook on life.
